On Positron:
- Finishing up some Worldcon posts. Also I just had to write a review of MiƩville's new book.
Around Chicago:
- Bookworks, the superb used book shop in Wrigleyville, is going out of business. 50% off everything in the store, they're moving through a lot of backstock, and they have an excellent SF/F spread.
- Chicago indie booksellers decry Amazon's brick-and-mortar arrival in Chicago (Shelf Awareness).
- Curbside Splendor's bookshop has been getting great reviews (Chicago Reader); I need to stop by and check that out.
- "A Princess of Mars", Otherworld Theatre's stage adaptation of E.R. Burroughs' Martian tales, began on Friday and runs through 9/24.
- Coming soon, don't miss:
- The Wicker Park & West Town Lit Fest is Sat. 9/17-Sun. 9/18. Kicks off with Quimby's 25th Anniversary Party, lots of events at Quimby's, Volumes, Myopic, Secret Agent, and more!
- Fri. 9/16 is Bad Grammar Theater's 5th Anniversary. 7pm @ Forte Framing Gallery.
- There still may be time to sign up to be a Windycon panelist or moderator. Windycon is Nov. 11-13.
- Thursday 9/15 is a Trek-focused Adler After Dark. Sold out, but I hear there may be a few tickets floating around for Chicago Nerd members.
- And don't forget to check out the Upcoming Events for all your bookclubbing needs!
Around the Web:
- I've been catching up on Cabbages and Kings, an SF/F reader podcast recorded here in Chicago.
- File770 gave Positron a shout-out. Thanks Mike!
- I really enjoyed this talk between Ada Palmer and Jo Walton over on Strange Horizons.
- Many great post-Hugo interviews with N.K. Jemisin, take this New York Times one for instance.
- "From Choice to Polarity: Politics of, and, and in Art". Excellent long essay by China MiƩville over on Salvage.
